Some points to consider when hiring a wedding photographer

1. References are always helpful and most photographers will now display their work to you at home by appointment or online.

2. You may feel it is important to meet your photographer and have a chat over a cup of tea or glass of wine.Ask to see picture samples from a minimum of two recent weddings. The photographs should cover the entire wedding day. This will not be a problem for an experienced  photographer. Don't ever hire anyone that only shows you odd photos from a variety of weddings. This is not a good sign.

Here is an example of what one customer requested.
"I want the day to be covered by two photographers in reportage style from morning till midnight. My sister in law is compiling the photo album and she needs ten original prints size 8"x8" in colour not black and white. I want all of the photographs taken on the day shown to me for my approval then delivered to me on a compact disc no later than 1 month later"

4. Photographers are not unused to dealing with requests like the above but they will have set fees and packages. None the less making changes tailored to your expectations is also quite normal.

5. Once you have met and if you are happy to book your wedding photographer you may be asked to sign a booking form or contract that will state the photographers terms and conditions as well as the photographers responsibilities. Read the contract carefully and ask the photographer to explain anything you do not understand.

6. The booking is definite and confirmed in writing once the wedding photographer has received your deposit.
You should receive confirmation in writing and the outstanding balance will be due on the date agreed by photographer and your self.

7. Like some churches and halls wedding photographers are often booked up to two years in advance so book your desired photographer as soon as you can.

We hope this guide helps and we wish you all the best on your big day.
